India Post issued a stamp to commemorate 125 years of Malayala Manorama. Malayala Manorama  is a daily newspaper, in Malayalam language, published in the state of Kerala. It is the most widely read daily and number one in Kerala.  Currently it has a readership of over 20 million (with a circulation base of over 1.9 million copies).

At INPEX 2013–Meeting of Jainism Philately Group

Hi !

Today I am leaving for Delhi and writing this post from Bharuch ( Gujarat) the “City of Peanuts..” Here I tasted a  variety of peanuts with many flavours and  of course  delicious Guajrati Cuisine…I am going with sweet memories of INPEX 2013 where I met philatelists from all corners of India..But I feel sorry for some with whom I could not spend much time….I really enjoyed the exhibition meeting with new people and old friends. It is a lifetime memory…

But this will be very special INPEX 2013 Issue.

MEETING OF JAINISM PHILATELY GROUP ON 23-02-2013 WAS GRAND SUCCESS

Jainism Philately Group (JPG) organised a meeting of it's members on 23rd Feb. 2013 at INPEX 2013 venue at Mumbai. It was grand success and attended by 96 members from different States of the country.

Organising Committee of INPEX had included this meeting in their official schedule and hence provided their function hall as well as decorated stage for the same. We had displayed an additional banner of Jainism Philately group with the images of many Jainism stamps on the background. Mr. Deepak Modi, JPG General Secretary invited Mr. Dhirubhai Mehta (President INPEX Organising Committee and President Philatelic Society of India), Mr. Dilip Shah (President P.C.I.), Mrs. Damayanti Pittie ( Secretary P.S.I.) and Mr. Jatan Mal Dhor (Member Philatelic Advisory Committee) on the dais. We are proud that all these top Philatelists of India are Jain and associated with JPG. Mr. Pradip Jain (Patron JPG), Mr. Sudhir Jain (National Chairman JPG) and Mrs. Meena Mutha (Coordinator of this meeting) were also called on the stage.

Meeting started at 12.30 noon by Navakar Mantra by Mrs. Geetaben Bavisi of Akola. Mr. Sudhir Jain, Mr. Deepak Modi, Mr. Vikas Jain, Mrs. Pratibha Gandhi presented flowers to the dignitaries on the dais. All the members given their self introduction. Mr. Sudhir Jain briefly presented report of JPG. He said that at the time of inauguration at New Delhi on 15th Feb. 2011, we were 50 and now we are more then 200. JPG members are very actively promoting Jainism Philately. Many members prepared exhibits on Jainism and allied themes and also won medals in various exhibitions. He had also acknowledged achievements of JPG members in organising Jainism exhibitions, issuing spl. covers etc.

Apart from the blessings and suggestions from the dignitaries on the dais, Mr. Atul Jain (Bilaspur), Mr. Hemant Bafna (Pune), Mr. Pradip Jain (Patna), Mr. Suresh Jain (Ludhiana), Mr. Prashant Pandya (Baroda), Mr. Rajesh Paharia (Jaipur), Mr. M. K. Krishnayya (Udupi) etc. also given good suggestions. Some important decisions taken were as under -

1. Approved formation of Pune Chapter of Jainism Philately Group

2. JPG members will try to get new Jainism Philatelic items of their area for all the other interested members

3. State Representatives for unrepresented States will be nominated by self willingness

4. More Booklets should be planned to issue on Jainism

5. Addition of old Cinderella items on Jainism should be encouraged

Mr. Vikas Jain (Ajmer) given vote of thanks. Meeting was concluded by one minute silence on the sad demise of JPG member Mr. Nanjibhai Janjani (Bhuj).

Basant Panchami

Today is Basant Panchami which is being celebrated by worship of Devi Saraswati. Jain Saraswati is also described in the Holy books and many ancient idols of Jain Saraswati are available at different places. Two stamps were also issued on Jain Saraswati in the year 1974.

Israel – Nepal Joint issue..

Israel Post issued a  postage stamp on 4th September featuring Dead Sea and Mount Everest. This is Israel Nepal joint issue.Over the years, the two countries have created a diverse network of cooperation and close ties in various areas. Nepal is located in the Himalaya Mountains and includes Mt. Everest - the earth’s highest mountain, and Israel is home to the lowest place on earth - the Dead Sea.

This is a beautiful joint issue and a wonderful item for those   collecting  on  Tourism, Flags and Joint issue themes !!

Mt. Everest is located in the eastern portion of the Himalaya Mountains, on the border between Nepal and Tibet. Most of the mountain lies in Tibet, while the southern portion is located within the borders of the Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal.

2012 UEFA European Football Championship…

European football championship stamp from Hungary

Magyar Post issued a postage stamp to commemorate Euro 2012 The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, is the 14th European Championship for national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament is being hosted by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012.

On the left side of this stamp, based on a design by the graphic artist Attila Elekes, are pictogram-like depictions of typical moves in football, and on the right side there is a football decorated with the national colours of the organising countries with a map of Europe in the background.

SPECIAL COVER on Jainism issued at Agra

On the occasion of 24 Jinalaya Pratishtha Mahotsava, Jain Dadabadi, a special cover was released at Agra (U.P.) on 18th June 2012. I am exhibiting here image of such cover and a
newspaper cutting of the release function.


It is an interesting fact that this Pratishtha Mahotsava programme was held from 23rd Feb. to 27th Feb. 2012 and this special cover was proposed during that time. But due to Assembly elections of U.P., Postal Department not released the cover during that function. Now on 18th June 2012, Postal Department has issued the same in a separate
function.

Stamps on London 2012 Olympics..

Modern Olympic Games are a cultural event, the culmination of the Olympic movement that brings together sportsmen from all the five continents to a great sports festival that unites athletes from all over the world.

The 30th Olympic Summer Games will take place from July 27 until August 12 in London, the British capital and it will become the first city to host the Games for the third time. For the first time London was the scene of the Olympic Games in 1908 and then in 1948 after World War II.

There will be 10,500 athletes from 205 world countries taking part in this year’s Olympic Games with 21,000 media representatives to cover the events and 8.8. million tickets to be sold.

Slovenia post issued Olympic stamps showing motifs of swimming, judo, sailing and basketball. The left and right margins depict the Olympic rings, the logo of London 2012 and stamps of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia.

SPECIAL COVER RELEASED TODAY AT AGRA ON JAINISM

A special cover has been issued at Agra (U.P.) on 18th June 2012 on the occasion of 24 Jinalay Pratishtha Mahotsava, Jain Dadabadi, Agra. Shri Swetamber Murtipujak Kalikund Tirthoddharak Param Pujya Acharya Shri Rajendra Surishwar Maharaj was instrumental for the same.

A small function was organised today at Jain Dadabadi, Agra to release this cover. Mr. N. K. Janoo, D.P.O. Agra, Mr. Umesh Verma, Director Postal Services, Agra Circle, Mr. Jatan Mal Dhor, Member Philatelic Advisory Committee, Department of Post, Mr. Yogendra Kumar Jain, Member, Jainism Philately group etc. were the guests of this function.

India Post issued a commemorative stamp on  Karpoor Chandra 'Kulish' today - 16th May 2012. He was the founder of Rajasthan Patrika Group which is one of  India’s leading Hindi Media Groups.

image Karpoor Chandra was born on 20th of March, 1926 in Soda village of Tonk district of Rajasthan. He started his journalistic life in 1951 and the major turn in his life came in the year 1956 when he started an evening daily in the form of Rajasthan Patrika. Started with this small newspaper, developed into a big Media Group. Today, newspapers of this Group are published in over 30 editions in 7 states. Patrika family comprises of around 1 crore
and 94 lakhs readers per day.

He received “Haldi Ghati award” in 1983, “B.D Goenka award” in 1987, All India Editor's Guild Award” in 1999, “ Dr. Headgevar Pragya award” in 1993. He was also conferred with “Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi award”  He also composed 11 Vedas in a single volume which is considered as the largest and most bulky in terms of weight in the world.  He died on 17th Jan. 2006.

New Dickens stamps from Royal Mail

To celebrate the bicentenary of Dickens' birth Royal Mail is to celebrate his life and work of with ten new stamps to be issued on 19 June.

The stamps feature iconic characters from some of his most famous novels, including Mr Bumble from Oliver Twist, Mr Micawber from David Copperfield and Captain Cuttle from Dombey and Son.

Six of the stamps feature original illustrations adapted from Character Sketches from Charles Dickens, by Joseph Clayton Clarke (otherwise known as Kyd) and originally published around 1890.

Royal Mail is also issuing a miniature sheet of four stamps of illustrations by Hablot Knight Brown, (known as Phiz), who illustrated ten books by the author.

New stamp by India Post  on Jain personality : Karpoor Chandra Kulish on 16th May 2012
