Stamp on Mother’s Day from Lithuania

image

Day of Issue : 4 May 2013

This year Lithuania Post  congratulated all mothers on the occasion of Mother’s Day by sending a postcard with a stamp created specially for this day. The stamp dedicated to Mother’s Day is special for its author, namely a three-year-old girl Gryte Kucinskaite.

This is the first stamp ever dedicated to Mother’s Day issued in Lithuania. The stamp was released on Saturday, May 4th. The stamp dedicated to Mother’s Day has been issued in the edition of 80 thousand copies with a nominal value of LTL 1.35.

Along with the stamp, the first day cover, sheet, and maximum card have also been released. In Lithuania, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May. This is an ancient Lithuanian holiday.  On this day, Mothers are congratulated by children and men: they are trying to do all domestic chores.

Mother’s Day is celebrated in spring, as Mother is a symbol of soil. Thus in spring, while praising the soil to be it fertile, mothers are also remembered.

Stamp on International Firefighter’s Day

image

International Firefighter’s Day is celebrated on the 4th May, on the feast of St. Florian patron saint of firefighters. St. Florian was a high ranking officer in the Roman legions of the Emperor Diocletian at the time of the last great persecution of Christians. To commemorate this day  Croatian post Ltd. Mostar has issued commemorative postage stamp.

Fire activities today are performed by fire troops, volunteer fire departments and fire communities as professional and charitable organizations. Firefighters are trained in fire fighting, participating in the implementation of preventive measures for protection against fire and explosions, rescue of people and property endangered by fire and explosions, providing the technical assistance in accidents and dangerous situations and in performing of other tasks in environmental and other accidents. Since it is a demanding and complex job, in fire departments, the organization and teamwork is needed, where theoretical and practical education in classroom or on the training ground is conducted on daily basis.

150 Years of the Red Cross

image

Hi !

Today is World Red Cross Day. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated on the 8th of May each year. This date is the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant (born 8 May 1828), the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.

I wish to share here two nice stamps from Serbia and Finland here. One shown above issued on 150 years of foundation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the other stamp shown below features beautiful bouquet  issued by Finnish Post recently !!

Both the stamps are beautiful for theme on  ‘Red ‘Cross’ and ‘Flowers’ .

150 Years of Red Cross

An ambitious idea of Henry Dunant (1828-1910) to alleviate human suffering and provide assistance to the victims of armed conflicts, natural and other disasters became reality 150 years ago with the foundation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Relief Societies, known today as National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Although in the beginning its sole objective was to ensure protection and assistance to the wounded in the battlefields, the scope of the International Committee of the Red Cross activities, as well as of the entire International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, has been constantly expanding to address ongoing humanitarian challenges. Through its direct action around the world, as well as by promoting of the development and respect of international humanitarian law, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as the largest humanitarian network of the world, still strives to improve the lives of victims and respond to all kinds of humanitarian crises on an impartial, independent and neutral basis.

Åland cheese with a history..

image

Date of issue - 6 May 2013

Hi !

Here is a beautiful stamp featuring Cheese of Aland, issued yesterday by Aland Post. It is a Non-denominated stamp. Non-denominated Åland postage stamps, or no-value indicator (NVI) are used for local Post  (domestic, within Åland only). This stamp is good for Milk theme and other food related subjects like Cuisine, Gastronomy etc. Since many  Cheese varieties have been featured on  stamps issued by several postal administrations. So Cheese could also be treated as an individual theme and would prove a nice subject for one frame exhibit !!

The production and sale of butter and cheese has existed in Aland since the Middle Ages. The first Aland dairy was founded approx. 120 years ago. Today, the dairy cooperative Alands Centralandelslag (ACA) handles the Aland dairy production.

ACA cheeses have won several awards, the most recent success being the 2012 competition for best Finnish cheese. The cheeses “Kastelholm”, “Alands special” and “Prostens magra” came in second, whereas the Aland “Edam” won third place. A total of 107 types of cheese were entered in the competition in 12 different categories.

The Kastelholm cheese featured on the new stamp by Aland Post got its name from the only medieval castle in Aland, located in Sund. The name is thought to originate from a traditional type of double cream cheese which was produced in Sund in the 1500s.

World Health Day

image

Date of Issue : 3 April 2013

World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.

image

The post of San Marino issued a stamp dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of deaths worldwide, though since the 1970s. Although cardiovascular disease usually affects older adults, the antecedents of cardiovascular disease, notably atherosclerosis, begin in early life, making primary prevention efforts necessary from childhood.

image

The heart is the main element of the stamp and it is therefore the only coloured image. Besides on the stamp an apple is seen the , symbol of health, a running man for physical activity and stethoscope to remind medical check-up. Without all these elements the heart risks to be shadowed. It is necessary to play a team game to fight against cardiovascular diseases. The philately of San Marino wants to underline again this concept issuing this new stamp.

The theme for World Health Day 2013 is high blood pressure.
About high blood pressure

High blood pressure – also known as raised blood pressure or hypertension – increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. If left uncontrolled, high blood pressure can also cause blindness, irregularities of the heartbeat and heart failure. The risk of developing these complications is higher in the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes. One in three adults worldwide has high blood pressure. The proportion increases with age, from 1 in 10 people in their 20s and 30s to 5 in 10 people in their 50s. Prevalence of high blood pressure is highest in some low-income countries in Africa, with over 40% of adults in many African countries thought to be affected.

However, high blood pressure is both preventable and treatable. In some developed countries, prevention and treatment of the condition, together with other cardiovascular risk factors, has brought about a reduction in deaths from heart disease. The risk of developing high blood pressure can be reduced by:

  • reducing salt intake;
  • eating a balanced diet;
  • avoiding harmful use of alcohol;
  • taking regular physical activity;
  • maintaining a healthy body weight; and
  • avoiding tobacco use.

International Year of Water Cooperation 2013

 image

Hi !

Here is a beautiful stamp issued on World Water Day by Brazil Post. The stamp also commemorates the International Year of Water Cooperation. The stamp design is very innovative. The stamp design is represented by the peaceful and sustainable use of water resources through the use of a dropper that goes inside, outside and around the globe. Water is displayed cyclically, symbolizing sustainable use. It is a wonderful item for environment theme.

This is all for Today…More in next Post….Have a Nice Time !

Frutal was commemorated on the International Year of Water Cooperation stamps by the Brazilian Correios as one of three cities hosting the UNESCO-HidroEX. The event took place on Friday, 22 of March.

This souvenir  sheet  highlights its accessibility to the entire planet. The design conveys the water effect on our planet and people: a piece of arid soil being taken by green trees, planting favours human development, environmental integrity and the eradication of poverty and hunger.

Above the block, there is the logo of the International Year of Water Cooperation - 2013. Inspired by this brand, in the background, there is an abundant amount of water in motion to give organic rhythm, life and strength to the composition.

World Water Day - 22 March

image

Clean water is the world’s most prestigious and rarest assets and essential need of everyone’s daily life. An average person in the world consumes more than 100 liters of clean water per day but  some people living in sub-Saharan Africa and other developing areas have to survive with 20 liters or less for full day.So Water is precious and we must conserve it !! Today is World Water Day and it  is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

image

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.

image

Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. In 2013, in reflection of the International Year of Water Cooperation, World Water Day is also dedicated to the theme of cooperation around water and is coordinated by UNESCO in collaboration with UNECE and UNDESA on behalf of UN-Water.

image

On the occasion of World Water Day on 22 March, celebrations and events are taking place worldwide. People all around the world take action to raise awareness on water issues and improve the management of our water resources.
