Hi !

Here are some very funny stamps issued by Finnish Post . The stamps are so interesting that can make anyone smile !! The stamps will definitely change your mood… It is a wonderful set of stamps for fun lovers and kids !!

Finnish Post issued a booklet of 6 funny stamps depicting the crazy sports typical for Finns: carrying a lady, boot throwing, sitting in the ant nest, playing air guitar, wheeling a cart with a man inside and playing swamp soccer. Stamp designer Bruno Maximus hopes that these humorous stamps would spread all over the world and rouse their recipients’ smile.

Finnish post issued a stamp sheet commemorating the favorite Moomins, central characters in a series of books and a comic strip by Swedish-Finn illustrator and writer Tove Jansson. They are a family of fairy tale characters, who are white and roundish, with large snouts that make them resemble hippopotamuses. The carefree and adventurous family live in their house in Moominvalley, in the forests of Finland, though in the past their temporary residences have included a lighthouse and a theatre. They have had many adventures along with their various friends.

The stamps illustrate philosophical Moominpappa, Moomintroll jumping in the water to swim, Moominmamma with her famous handbag, Little My balancing a basket on her head, Snufkin reading a letter and Little My dancing in delight.  Each of the characters is depicted on the colorful background.

Doraemon on new Japanese stamps..

Here is a beautiful set of stamps featuring children’s favorite cartoon character ‘Doraemon’ to be  issued by Japanese Post in June. This will really make children happy…A good set for young stamp collectors !!

One of Japan's most popular anime characters will soon be traveling via snail mail rather than time machine. Japan Post Co. is set to issue a postal stamp set featuring characters from the "Doraemon" animated series on June 4.

The stamps are the 20th installment of the postal service's anime hero and heroine stamp series, produced in collaboration with the Association of Japanese Animations.

Previous installments in the series have included "Pokemon," "Mobile Suit Gundam," "Sgt. Frog," and most recently, "Heidi, Girl of the Alps," released in January. Japan Post will release 1.5 million "Doraemon" sheets, each costing 800 yen ($8) and containing 10 stamps of 80-yen value each.

Available at post offices and other outlets across Japan, the stamps will come in five pairs of two, featuring Doraemon, Nobita, Suneo, Gian, Shizuka and Dorami characters."Doraemon" is an animated TV series about a robotic cat named Doraemon from the 22nd century who is sent back to the present time in a time machine to aid schoolboy Nobita.

It was adapted from Fujiko F. Fujio's manga of the same name, which started serialization in 1969. The anime series has been airing since 1979. A feature film adaptation has been released annually since 1980, except in 2005.

With the 34th installment in the film series, "Nobita no Himitsu Dogu Museum" (Nobita and the secret tools museum), the combined audience of all the Doraemon movies has reached a record 100.3 million viewers, breaking the domestic record held by the "Godzilla" films."Doraemon" also enjoys widespread popularity throughout Asia, especially in China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Chinese folklore on stamps..

 

 

    

   

The Chinese Post has issued a set of 4 stamps and a booklet dedicated to the character of Liu San Jie (Third Sister Liu) from the popular Chinese folklore story.

According to the local tale, Liu San Jie was born in a village along the Liujiang River of Guangxi in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). She was not only beautiful but also good at singing folk songs. At the age of 17, Liu San Jie fell in love with a handsome young man who was also a good folk singer. The two swore never separate in their lives. The peaceful happiness was, however, broken by a hooligan in the village who had been for a long time attracted by Liu's beauty. This evil man decided to take Liu San Jie by force. He got his chance on a moonlight night when Liu and her lover were sitting on a big rock at riverside to enjoy the beauty of the moon. Suddenly, a gang of hooligans surrounded them. Liu San Jie and her lover had no way to escape, with no hesitation, the couple jumped into the roaring Liujiang River, hand in hand.

Nowadays, local people gather annually along the riverside of the Liujiang River, organizing a folk-song competition to mourn Liu San Jie.

Edgar Rice Burroughs: The creator of Tarzan

Hi !

Here is a beautiful stamp issued by US Postal Service on  Edgar Rice Burroughs the creator of Tarzan the famous comic character . Tarzan used to be teenager’s famous character and I remember that also made a big scrap book with daily comic strips of Tarzan published in newspaper those days !! It is making me nostalgic now….A beautiful stamp…..  Go down memory lane….when you were a child !!

Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) was an American author, best known for his creation of the jungle hero Tarzan and the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, although he produced works in many genres.

When he published his first story in 1912, Edgar Rice Burroughs was thirty-six years old, had two small children, and was selling pencil sharpeners. For him, writing was a way to provide for his family after everything else had failed. In fact, he joked that he published his stories in popular fiction magazines because his writing was “just as rotten” as the rest of the stories in them, but more entertaining.

That first short story was called “Under the Moons of Mars.” Burroughs’s second, published the same year, was even more popular. "Tarzan of the Apes" and its iconic jungle man captured the public imagination. A hundred years — and countless adaptations as graphic novels, movies, and television series — later, Tarzan is a ubiquitous part of American popular culture.

Tarzan was a cultural sensation when introduced. Burroughs was determined to capitalize on Tarzan's popularity in every way possible. He planned to exploit Tarzan through several different media including a syndicated Tarzan comic strip, movies and merchandise. Experts in the field advised against this course of action, stating that the different media would just end up competing against each other. Burroughs went ahead, however, and proved the experts wrong—the public wanted Tarzan in whatever fashion he was offered. Tarzan remains one of the most successful fictional characters to this day and is a cultural icon.

In either 1915 or 1919, Burroughs purchased a large ranch north of Los Angeles, California, which he named "Tarzana." The citizens of the community that sprang up around the ranch voted to adopt that name when their community, Tarzana, California was formed in 1927.  Also the unincorporated community of Tarzan, Texas, was formally named in 1927 when the US Postal Service accepted the name, reputedly coming from the popularity of the first (silent) Tarzan of the Apes film, starring Elmo Lincoln, and an early "Tarzan" comic strip.

Independence day special 5-frame exhibit at Philatelic Bureau, Tiruchirapalli /  Trichy, Tamilnadu.

The expo by Tiruchi Philatelist’s Association, one of the oldest surviving in the country, chronicles the ‘saga of India’s freedom struggle though Indian postage stamps’, to quote from the display. Right from the heroes of the First War of Indian Independence like Nana Saheb, Tantya Tope, Rani Lakshmi Bai and Mangal Pandey to Dadabai Naroji, the ‘old man of India’, Tilak who famously uttered ‘Swaraj is my birthright and India’s first prime minster Jawaharlal Nehru, the collection spans a hundred years. Not to forget are milestone events including Vellore Mutiny, the Satyagraha and Jallian walla bagh massacre that changed the face of the movement.

Displayed in five frames, the exhibition features the collection of three young hobbyists. An impressive award-winning collection by R.Susendran, a Class VIII student from Vasavi Vidyalalya, is followed by a single frame display by Irin Princy, B.A. student, Holy Cross College and engineering student, K.Sivachidambaram Pillai.

The expo is on till Septemeber 5 at the Philatelic Bureau, Head Post Office from 10 am to 6 p.m.

On May 25,1932, Goofy made his grand debut in his first cartoon called ‘Mickey’s Revue’, starring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Dippy Dawg(more commonly known as Goofy).

When the character of Goofy made his Disney debut, he was originally known by the name of Dippy Dawg. Over the years he’s had a variety of unusual names, which include George Geef, G.G. Geef, Super Goof, G.G, and Goof.
